March 8, 2007: Regrouping Is The New Borrowing

And what, pray tell, is the difference?

The difference sounds as follows:

"Kids, just like when working with whole numbers, when you subtract fractions, sometimes you have to borr--regroup. When you borr-regroup with whole numbers, you go to the next place to the left and borr-regroup by lowering the digit by 1. When you borr-regroup with fractions..."

You get the idea, I hope.

The main point of this picture was lost when I realized I didn't feel right taking a picture of the work of one of the many students who thought 0 in the ones place minus 1 in the once place equals 1. MANY MANY students. 0 - 1 = 1.

So I took a picture of one done correctly, just to present a positive face.
